The kids are back in school, the weather is cooling and you're starting to think about all the great beers you could brew over the coming fall and winter months...beers that taste as comforting as a cozy blanket feels in the early, dark hours of the morning when you just don't want to get out of bed! What you may not realize is that historically, beer was brewed mostly in the fall and winter months so it shouldn't surprise you when you "feel" like it's time to brew. Only it wasn't a cozy feeling that made them brew then, it was really because before refrigeration, the cooler weather assisted with longer storage of beer and of course the end of the summer was when ingredient availability peaked! Fortunately for us, we aren't as restricted in when we brew because you can hit up your local brew shop and grocery store to find most of what you need...it won't be as fresh as the season harvested in but if you like raspberry wheat ales, you can find what you need to be able to brew it all throughout the seasons! So although it is the "season" for beers like smoked porters, pumpkin ales and marzen/oktoberfests, you can stubborn out and brew any darn thing you want! Looking for some recipe ideas?
